EORNA

European Operating Room Nurses Association

EORNA was founded in 1980 by a group of innovative European perioperative nurses and formally launched and founded in Copenhagen Denmark in 1992.

EORNA enhances and develop perioperative patient care across Europe by:

Being a group of European operating room nurses who exchanges information and ideas to enhance and develop perioperative care.
Representing and being the voice of specialist operating room nurses/practitioners throughout Europe linking with international organisations with similar aims.
Promoting professional recognition of operating room nurses throughout Europe.
Promoting and maintaining a high standard of nursing care for the patients in the perioperative environment.
Defining and implement ethical practice in perioperative care.
Applying scientific research to perioperative care.
Understanding and developing in order to achieve a standardised level of education.
Collaborating with other organisations with related interests.

EORNA Officers

Board of Directors is led by the Officers of EORNA who themselves come from individual member associations. Four officers from the Board: the President; the Vice President; and the Secretary and Treasurer are elected. Officers serve a three year term, and cannot be re-elected within the forthcoming six years after finishing the term, apart from the President who may be re-elected for one additional three year term.

EORNA Board meetings

EORNA Board meetings (two days) are held twice a year in spring and autumn. All officers meet a day before and a day after the main meeting to coordinate the business and responsibilities of each Officer. EORNA board is comprised of at most two representatives from the official associations in each member country. Official language of EORNA is English.

Each Committee has a Chair person and meet with the Officers prior to each EORNA Board meeting.

EORNA Congress

Every three years there is an EORNACongress. In April 17-18 April 2009 in Copenhagen EORNA will have its 5th congress.
