European federation of Critical Care Nursing associations

The EfCCNa is established in 1999.
The current council, representing 23 associations from 23 countries, elected its first executive board in April 2005 based on a change of the organisation and its constitution.
The purpose of this transformation is to be more effective administration and to improve its performance.

The objectives of the federation are: to support professional associations of critical care nurses, regardless of age, gender, nationality, colour, religious beliefs, social background and political views of their members;to represent critical care nurses, critical care nursing and their professional associations in Europe and to strengthen their position.

The federation tries to achieve its objectives among other things by means of:representing critical care nurses in the participating countries;contributing to the quality of professional practice and scientific research in the field of critical care nursing;promoting cooperation between European critical care nurses;improving the recognition of critical care nursing by other European health care institutions;stimulating and maintaining effective cooperation between all health care professionals, associations, agencies and institutions which are involved in the care of critically ill patients;establishing guidelines with regard to training and education, practice and management in the field of critical care nursing;harmonising educational programmes in critical care nursing in the participating countries;convening and promoting conferences and congresses that contribute to the state of knowledge of the European critical care nurses.

The council meet twice a year, each time in a different member country and the executive board meets two times a year in between two council meetings.

EfCCNa has several committees:

  • Education
  • Exchange program
  • Congress (both scientific and organisation)
  • PR & marketing
  • R&D: the policy of EfCCNa’s Research and Development program is based on collaboration with several non profit organisations and a partnership with (industrial) sponsors.
